Capresso 116.04 Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine EC100 Reviews

I got this for a family member’s birthday present. They have told me many times how much they love it and how good the lattes are but I finally got a chance to try it for myself when I visited recently and they were definitely not exaggerating. The espresso comes out looking and tasting just like at a cafe- rich, strong, dark, with lots of crema. The milk steams up with a smooth, creamy froth that is absolutely perfect. The coffee comes out quickly and the milk steams fast. All told, a latte takes maybe 5 minutes to make. I’m thinking of getting one for myself now!I read all the reviews before buying this and to respond to a couple criticisms: Yes, large mugs do not fit beneath it. But a teacup would. And, of course, small espresso cups that you can empty into a larger mug or glass if you want. You can usually find little espresso cups at thrift stores for super cheap if you want to save money on this. You do need to stay near the machine and watch as it makes your coffee because there doesn’t appear to be an automatic shut off function. You need to switch it off when your cups are full or they will overflow, which is fine because it only takes a couple of minutes. Remove the cups quickly after you turn the dial to “off” because the machine will pump any extra water left in the “pipes” out and you don’t want that in your coffee. It will fall into the little collection box underneath the metal grate that holds the cup. This box will need emptying and cleaning every two or three brew cycles or it will overflow onto your counter. This is the only drawback I can see to this machine, but it’s not a big one.

Survived a 100+ uses so far and going strong. Makes a good cup of espresso for the price. Also, considering the price, the milk frother isn’t bad. You’d have to spend waaay more to get one that produces microfoam. Won’t make you a cappuccino like Starbucks thousand dollar machine, but still passable.Really simple to use and clean. Remember to wipe the brew head after each use. Saw complaints about the water reservoir leaking, and people complaining about the plastic material for it. What other material would you expect? Mine hasn’t leaked at all, and feels sturdy for plastic. People must be dropping it on the kitchen tile or something.Overall pleased with the purchase.

This is my second purchase. The previous one I used for about 18 months and have loved it. I don’t know if it failed do to my mis-use or just planned obsolescence or limited durability of parts — I did not like the change in sound or speed and think a pressure regulator may have failed. But on review for a new Cappuccino maker, nothing else in the price bracket seemed to offer any advantage to what I had learned to love about this machine – It seems the only one with a back-wash feature. [and I only use distilled water]. I was a little worried at first, because the locking mechanism for the portafilter was tight, but – as noted in the instructions – after just 2-3 uses it was fine.

I bought this for my boyfriend’s birthday and he loves it. He says it makes the best cappuccino he has ever had. So, in terms of coffee quality and the speed it produces it, it gets a 5 star (we use Lavatza Crema in it and it works like a charm). However, no matter what we do the water carafe leaks. We wake up to half an inch of water all over our counter top. So we have to empty the carafe each time we finish using it. It’s not a big deal, but it creates a mess if we forget. So, from that point I would rate this a three. If this didn’t have a water leakage problem I would give it an unqualified 5.
